Basic principles of electrostatic protection for electronic products

2024-11-06

The following basic principles should be followed for electrostatic protection of electronic products:

1. Prevent static electricity

Maintain proper humidity in production and storage environments. Generally speaking, relative humidity is between 40% and 70%. Within this humidity range, moisture in the air helps suppress the generation of static electricity. For example, in an electronics manufacturing workshop, a humidifier or dehumidifier can be installed to adjust the humidity to ensure that it is within the appropriate range.
Reduce friction and separation Minimize friction and separation between objects. For example, when moving electronic products, they should be handled with care to avoid rapid sliding or throwing. On the production line, the process flow should be reasonably designed to reduce friction and collision between parts. For example, use automated equipment for smooth transmission and assembly to avoid unnecessary friction caused by manual operation.
Use antistatic materials to select materials with antistatic properties to manufacture electronic product housings, packaging, and production equipment. These materials can effectively reduce the generation and accumulation of static electricity. For example, using antistatic plastics to make electronic product housings can not only prevent the impact of static electricity on the internal circuit, but also improve the durability of the product.

2. Safe Dissipation of Static Electricity

Grounding ensures that all equipment and objects that may generate static electricity are properly grounded. Grounding is the most effective way to guide static electricity to the earth so that it can be safely dissipated. For example, electronic product production equipment, workbenches, storage racks, etc. should be connected to the earth through grounding wires. The grounding resistance should meet relevant standards to ensure that static electricity can be discharged quickly and safely.
Static dissipative materials are used to make floors, desks, and packaging materials in work areas. These materials have certain conductive properties and can slowly release static electricity into the surrounding environment without generating instantaneous high-voltage discharges. For example, static dissipative floors can effectively prevent operators from generating static electricity accumulation when walking around, protecting electronic products from static damage.
Ionization In some environments that are particularly sensitive to static electricity, devices such as ion blowers or ion rods can be used to generate positive and negative ions to neutralize static electricity in the air. These devices eliminate static electricity by releasing ions, keeping the static potential in the air at a low level. For example, in the assembly and testing areas of electronic products, ion blowers can be installed to continuously release ions into the air to prevent static electricity from damaging sensitive components.

3. Management of electrostatic sensitive areas

Clearly mark static-sensitive areas and set up warning signs. These areas usually include production workshops, storage warehouses, and testing laboratories for electronic products. Warning signs can remind people to pay attention to static protection and take corresponding measures. For example, at the entrance of a static-sensitive area, a clear sign "Static-sensitive area, please pay attention to protection" can be posted to remind people entering the area to comply with static protection regulations.
Personnel training: Provide electrostatic protection training to all personnel who enter electrostatic sensitive areas. The training content should include the generation principle, hazards, protection methods and related operating procedures of static electricity. Through training, the electrostatic protection awareness and skills of personnel are improved to ensure that they can correctly implement electrostatic protection measures. For example, operators are trained on how to correctly wear anti-static wrist straps, use static dissipative materials and behavioral norms to avoid static electricity.
Control access Strictly control the people and items that enter the electrostatic sensitive area. Only those who have received electrostatic protection training and wear appropriate protective equipment can enter. At the same time, the items entering the area, such as raw materials, tools, equipment, etc., should also be tested and treated for electrostatics to ensure that they meet the electrostatic protection requirements. For example, before entering the electrostatic sensitive area, you can use an electrostatic detector to test people and items, and only those with electrostatic potential within a safe range can enter.
