Anti-static Tips in Autumn and Winter

2024-11-06

In the dry autumn and winter seasons, we are often "harassed" by static electricity: when combing hair in the morning, it will become more and more messy, and even stand up; when taking off clothes, there will often be crackling sounds, accompanied by blue light; when touching door handles, pulling aluminum alloy windows, or even turning on the faucet, the hands will feel a tingling pain like an electric shock. In fact, using some tricks, you can drive away static electricity. Liu Yanqiu, a doctor of physics at Capital Normal University, told the Life Times reporter that the static electricity generated by various electrical appliances will be absorbed and accumulated by the human body. In addition, most indoor walls and floors are insulators, and the static electricity in the body has nowhere to be released, so the body becomes a charged body. When touching certain objects, the electricity will be released, making a "pop" sound, which is what we often say "being electrocuted."

Static electricity is everywhere in life. When people come into contact with chemical fiber clothing, carpets, plastic utensils, shiny painted furniture and various household appliances, static electricity may occur. Static electricity can absorb dust in the air, and the greater the charge, the more dust it absorbs. Dust contains a variety of toxic substances and germs, which threaten people's health. To prevent static electricity interference, measures can be taken in four aspects: eating, wearing, living and traveling.

In terms of diet, you must drink plenty of water and supplement calcium and vitamin C, such as eating more apples, dates, tomatoes, etc. In addition, eat more white foods such as white radish, cabbage, lotus root, etc. to maintain the electrolyte balance in the human body and reduce the generation of static electricity.

In terms of clothing, you should try to choose pure cotton products and wear less nylon and wool clothes to reduce frictional electrification. You should also take a bath and change clothes frequently to eliminate the charges and charged dust accumulated on the human body surface. You can also put an appropriate amount of softener when washing clothes. After taking off your clothes, touch the wall gently with your hands, touch metal products, such as door handles or faucets, and touch the wall before you use them to release static electricity in your body. It is recommended to wear soft cotton or silk underwear, which can adjust the microclimate environment between the skin and underwear and reduce the generation of static electricity.

When you are at home, especially in autumn and winter, you should maintain a certain indoor humidity. When the relative humidity of the indoor air is lower than 35%, static electricity is easily generated. Therefore, you should mop the floor frequently, sprinkle water frequently or use a humidifier at home to reduce the accumulation of static electricity and dust absorption in the air. Try to avoid using chemical fiber and plastic decorations in the room. Before touching electrical conductors such as door handles and faucets, touch the wall or a wet towel with your hand to "discharge" the static electricity in your body.

When going out, it is recommended to go to the park more often. If conditions permit, you can walk barefoot, and the contact between your body and the ground can release static electricity in your body.
